CSV

Definition updated April 2026

What is CSV?

CSV (Comma-Separated Values) is a plain-text file format where each row represents a record and columns are separated by commas. A CSV file is essentially a table - the first row typically contains column headers and each subsequent row is one data record.

CSV is one of the most universally supported data formats. It can be opened directly in spreadsheet tools like Excel or Google Sheets, imported into virtually any database, and processed by every major programming language.

HappyEndpoint datasets are available in CSV alongside JSON and Parquet. CSV is the right choice if you want to analyze data in a spreadsheet, import it into a BI tool, or use a database that has a CSV import feature.
