API Subscription Plan

Definition updated April 2026

What is an API subscription plan?

An API subscription plan is a billing tier on an API marketplace that grants a developer access to an API under defined conditions - typically a monthly quota of requests and a monthly price. Most APIs offer a free tier for testing and paid tiers for higher usage.

On RapidAPI, subscribing to a plan is instantaneous - select a tier, confirm billing details, and your API key is immediately active. Plans are structured around request quotas, with higher tiers offering more requests per month at a proportionally higher price.

When selecting a plan, estimate your monthly request volume based on your use case. For price tracking that polls hourly, your volume is (number of products) x 24 x 30. For property search apps, it depends on user traffic and API calls per search.
