Geolocation Data
Definition updated April 2026
What is geolocation data?
Geolocation data associates records with a specific geographic location, expressed as coordinates (latitude/longitude), an address, or an administrative area like city, region, or postal code.
In real estate APIs, geolocation data enables map-based property search (show listings within a drawn boundary) and radius search (properties within 2km of a point of interest). In retail, it powers store locator features and regional price comparison.
Location data quality matters greatly for user-facing features. Inaccurate coordinates place a property on the wrong street in a map view; imprecise postal codes distort radius searches. Always test the precision of geolocation data against known addresses in your target market.
