Morningstar Data
Definition updated April 2026
What is Morningstar data?
Morningstar is a global investment research firm that produces proprietary ratings, performance analysis, and data covering mutual funds, ETFs, stocks, and other financial instruments. Morningstar data is used by financial advisors, wealth managers, and retail investment platforms worldwide.
The Morningstar star rating system - 1 to 5 stars based on risk-adjusted returns relative to peers - is one of the most widely recognized quality signals in the investment industry. Beyond ratings, Morningstar provides detailed fund profiles, holdings data, performance histories, and analyst commentary.
API access to Morningstar data enables developers to build investment screening tools, portfolio analytics platforms, and financial dashboards using the same underlying data available to professional fund selectors.
