Price History
Definition updated April 2026
What is price history?
Price history is a time-series record of how the price of a product has changed over time. It captures the sequence of price changes - including sale prices, promotional discounts, and regular adjustments - allowing consumers and analysts to see whether a current price represents a genuine discount.
For e-commerce applications, price history data is the foundation of deal alert tools, browser extensions that show whether a price is at its historical low, and price trend charts that help users decide when to buy.
APIs that expose price history typically return a time-indexed array of price points with optional metadata like the date of change, promotion type, and the store or region the price applies to. The depth of history available varies by API and subscription tier.
