What is third-party data?

Third-party data is data collected by an organization that has no direct relationship with the individuals or entities it describes. It is typically aggregated and sold or licensed to businesses that use it to supplement their own data - for example, purchasing market trend data, demographic overlays, or competitor pricing feeds.

Data APIs are a primary mechanism for accessing third-party data. Subscribing to a property data API, a retail price feed, or a financial market data API gives you access to data collected by the provider from source platforms where they have the access rights.

The legal use of third-party data requires understanding the licensing terms of each source. Third-party data that includes personal information is subject to privacy regulations; non-personal market or pricing data has fewer restrictions but may still carry use-case limitations defined in the data license.
